The Christian Outreach and Wellness Ministry
The Christian Outreach and Wellness Ministries extends benevolent, educational, and redemptive ministries by reaching low-income residents in the East End of Cincinnati. Our regular outreach to the community includes a number of programs, including a food pantry, diabetic food pantry, wellness outreach, and social services. We also offer seasonal programs, which include a back-to-school shoe program, Thanksgiving baskets, and a Christmas toy giveaway. Our part-time Executive Director is the only paid employee, and we rely on dozens of volunteers to provide the services our clients need.
A History of the Outreach Ministry
Outreach started as a mission of Parkside Christian Church and served in this capacity for about 30 years. In 2011, the strategic decision was made to set Outreach up as a separate, nondenominational nonprofit. This change allowed the ministry to grow, and provides an opportunity for Christians from many churches to work together to share the love of Christ in an tangible way to families in need.

Our Sources for FoodWe are a member agency of the FreeStore FoodBank located on Tennessee Ave. and are able to acquire food for a nominal handling fee. Like any food bank, the FreeStore FoodBank can provide only what happens to be available, so groceries are purchased to fill gaps in the shelves. Perishable and non-perishable food items, as well basic hygiene/over-the-counter medication items are provided to our clients when available. Kroger donates bread to us during the week. Boy and Girl Scouts, Heritage Girls, and Christ the King Catholic church donate food items periodically and local food drives designate their collected items to us, which we are all very thankful for. Monetary donations come from church mission budgets, individuals, and grants.

Social Services
Our social services include crisis intervention, during which an assessment is made to determine which course of action is deemed appropriate, for example, referral to a shelter for domestic violence, or referral to emergency psychiatric care for mental health issues; some of these agencies include, but are not limited to, the YWCA, Mental Health Access Point (MHAP) and Catholic Charities. The Center for Independent Living Options is used for housing referrals for individuals with disabilities. Individuals seeking assistance with substance abuse and/or addiction are referred to the Center for Chemical Addictions Treatment (CCAT House) or Talbert House, among others; treatment programs are determined by availability of a bed and resources. Social services also provides assistance, and follow up, with paperwork for Department of Job and Family Services, and applications for Patient Assistance for medications for individuals who cannot afford to pay for them and Safelink free phone service. Referrals for emergency assistance for rent and utilities are made to a social concerns committee of a local church that makes the decision if help is to be granted.
Soul Sister Groups
Two groups of women meet at the building, one on Tuesdays and the other on Thursdays, to study and share God’s word with each other. Teaching of the Bible, relevant discussions, and encouragement are brought together in these groups. A closer walk with Jesus is aspired too. Prayer is always an essential.
